I remember the first person I ever saw wearing crocs when they came into vogue a couple of years ago. She was this very cool lady with freaky glasses who did story time at our library. Her crocs were bright yellow, and they were the real thing because they weren't popular enough yet at that point for people to make knock-offs. I commented to my Mother that I liked them and she said they were the ugliest shoes she'd ever seen. (A statement she has since made many times about my shoe collection...)
I wanted a pair. The thing was - most of my friends were of the cynical variety and immediately condemned crocs as the dumbest invention known to mankind. So for the past year or so I had been fighting with myself about whether or not to buy a pair. I don't have any other shoes like them, so it wouldn't be totally frivolous. Sam is always telling me how stupid flip-flops are, so this would be an acceptable alternative. And besides - I really, really wanted them.
On Sunday I broke down and bought my cheap wal-mart crocs knock-offs. I love them. Take that peer pressure. Nah!

The model wishes to remain anonymous, however, I'm afraid his/her identity will be presently known despite my poor rendering of his/her features ;)
Regrets, Algebra, and Summer School.
There are some regrets in life that stick with you and can never be remedied. Lucky for me, my regrets regarding algebra are of the remediable variety. You see, I never finished my high school algebra. There were two reasons for this. The first being that I got a very nice ACT score without being troubled by it. The second being that I many better things to do at the time.
Times have changed since I swore off of Algebra. I'm slightly less impulsive, silly, and lazy, I have much less to do now, and also I think it is really important to learn it. So despite the fact that I've done fine in my college classes, I have decided that this summer I'm going to start going over all my high school algebra. If that doesn't take two years, I also plan too go over Trigonometry...
Overall, it's kind of embarrassing to admit that I was too lazy to do Algebra when I was sixteen. But it was brought on by myself and better now than when I'm standing over my sixteen year old daughter with a look of terror on my face at having to face Saxon.... again....

I have wisdom...
...teeth. And they hurt.
Something about sharp pieces of bone piercing through the thin layer of puffy, swollen flesh that is my gums makes me cringe. I feel like my gums are giving birth... or maybe it's more like that scene in ALIEN....

I'm a radical sexist, didn't you know?
I'm on the local library committee here in the tiny, tiny town in which I live. We discuss trivial subjects such as library fines, the recent kindergarden field trip to the library, and most recently, what color to paint the library interior. I suggested taupe and sage, suggestions which were recieved with enthusiasm with the rest of the board. I then, however, let my PC filter slip and showed my true colors as a radical sexist.
We were discussing moving the book shelves away from the walls to paint when I remarked "This sounds like a job for men." The room went silent for half a moment, then a hippyish woman sitting across from me said in a manner that seemed to indicated she was shocked, taken aback, and offended "That is a RADICAL view!" The gentleman seated next to me added "Yes Elisabeth, that's sexist." The woman then followed up her first comment by adding that "You can just move all the shelves yourself then." Do I need any more proof that the West Coast is a strange, strange place?

Blogging - The Addiction.
I've been blogging for five years. It all started with my first journey to the rainy, foggy, gloomy, and beautiful state of Oregon. Since then I've been blogging pretty consistantly on several different blogs. What is the appeal of blogging? Why do I love it so? The reasons for this are numerous and diverse. But I will post five reasons for your amusement.
#1. I blog because I can.
#2. I blog because I'm bored.
#3. I blog because I have something to say.
#4. I blog because I want my own personal piece of the internet.
#5. I blog because I was homeschooled and I think there is some unwritten (or possibly written) law that anyone who was ever homeschooled must keep a blog.
Up till now I've kept my blog at: http://www.homeschoolalumni.org/weblog.php?w=2198 . You can read lots of clever things and see lots of pretty pictures there, if you care to take a look.

Rush Limbaugh, Ron Paul, and my thoughts in relation...
It is no secret that I am a huge fan of Rush Limbaugh. I am a Rush Baby pretty much through and through. As a homeschooler, he was always on in the background while I worked... brainwashing away! I still love to listen to Rush whenever I get the chance. His humor and wit never cease to amuse me. He has helped educate me about what it means to be a conservative and how to base my views on principles rather than emotions. I will not, however, be taking part in operation chaos in the upcoming May primary here in Oregon. Despite what the media would say about us Rush Babies, we do occasionally think for ourselves, as is evidenced by my endorsement of Ron Paul in the 2008 presidential election.
This endorsement I have made is no more secret than my adoration of Rush, and I have been promoting Ron Paul for several months now whenever I have gotten the chance. My enthusiasm for him has even led some of my friends and antagonists to believe that I view Dr. Paul as some sort of a savior for politics, America and the world. They are correct to some extent, as far as I believe that the conservative ideals that Dr. Paul represents are, indeed, the best way for society to function. I don't, however, view Dr. Paul himself as an infallible deity incapable wrong, just as I don't view Rush that way. I admire both men tremendously, but I still have points of dissagreement with both.
I find it interesting that amongst various members of my aquaintances I am know as a sort of mindless groupie, blindly following either Dr. Paul or Rush to destruction. Those who would make such suggestions either do not know me as well as they would claim to, or they simply wish to get a rise out of me. I also do not deny the possibily that it could a combination of both things. If the first, my accusers are lazy, as they haven't taken time to discuss the issues with me or find out my true opion of these men I supposedly idolize. If the second, my accusers are also lazy, as they haven't taken the time to discover that they would get a much bigger rise out of me by attacking the importance of ice cream in a well balanced diet.
Just some thoughts...
