If it's a girl...

... I am going to have an absolute ball making baby dresses.

Last week I came across this post on diamond pin tucks. This inspiration, plus my all consuming desire to make cute baby things lead me to begin creating. I began by making a sheet of diamond pin tucks.
I was very pleased with the result.
I wasn't sure what to do with them so I looked through my sewing things. I found that I had a baby dress pattern left over from making Maggie's christening gown.
You can see in this picture Mr. Snider (Silas's Dad) baptizing Maggie while my Mom and Stepdad look on. The dress isn't terribly clear, but you get the general idea.
I used the pin tucks for the bodice and this is the dress I came up with.
I call it "The Ellie Dress" because the fabric, with its shoes and purses, reminds me of my sister-in-law.
I'm already excited about perfecting my tucking technique and making more dresses!

  1. Fab pin tucks m'dear.
And I love that fabric. If I was going to have a daughter I would steal that dress from you. But since I'm not ever going to have daughters we don't have up worry about that :) And I also love the sleeves on that dress!!

Oh! And that one picture makes me so happy we aren't worshiping in the barn anymore ;-)

I was invisioning smaller diamonds on a peter pan collar with flowers or bullion roses embroidered in the diamonds.

  4. If the baby's a girl, she'd be very lucky to have a mom who knows how to make cute little dresses and cook good food :)

  5. That is adorable. Well done, E. Ummm...Folky Dots, are you suggesting that she has much skill as you and that she can embroider roses? I'm sure she can, send her a pic of a dress as you are describing. Oh wait... I'll take a pic of the Maggie May dress and send it to her. :D
